Student Success Stories

Kamohelo Tlali

My name is Kamohelo Martin Tlali, and I come from Kutlanong, Odendaalsrus, in the Free State. I couldn’t complete my studies due to financial difficulties, and for a long time, I felt stuck, unsure of how to move forward. That all changed when I met a former student from Thabiso Skills Development Centre. She had completed a carpentry course and now owned her own carpentry workshop. Seeing her success made me realize that I, too, could change my future by learning new skills

In 2024, I enrolled in the Carpentry, Welding, Electrical, and Plumbing course at Thabiso Skills Development Centre. The training I received there helped me understand that I could generate an income by working with my hands. The Life Skills and Basic Business courses gave me the confidence to believe in myself and my abilities.

Throughout my training, I developed skills in welding, carpentry, electrical work, and plumbing. I now do welding work from home daily, earning a living through the skills I’ve learned. Instead of waiting for employment, I took the initiative to work for myself, and it has changed my life.

Now that I’m self-employed, I want to inspire young people in my community to do the same. I want them to understand that working with their hands can provide financial independence. There are so many opportunities for people who are willing to learn and work hard.

Looking back, I feel incredibly proud of what I’ve accomplished. “I am proud of myself for being able to generate an income without having to be employed.”
