My name is Mandisa Matsie, and I am from Odendaalsrus, where job opportunities are scarce, and many people in my community don’t see the value of learning. I didn’t want to be stuck in the same situation, so I looked for inspiration. My cousin had completed the Nail Technician course at Thabiso Skills Development Centre and was now making a living from her skills. Seeing her succeed gave me the motivation to do the same.
In 2024, I enrolled in the Nail Technician course at Thabiso Skills Development Centre. The centre taught me more than just technical skills—it pushed me to believe in myself and my potential. I loved the experience so much that I decided to take on even more courses, learning welding, carpentry, plumbing, catering, and makeup.
With all these skills, I was able to start my own business as a nail technician. Now, I work for myself, earning an income and building a future on my own terms. The training I received at the centre gave me the confidence to take charge of my life.
My experience at the centre has also motivated me to encourage others in my community to study there. I want people to see that learning new skills can change their lives just as it changed mine.
Reflecting on my journey, I can truly say, “The experience was fantastic, which is why I took on so many courses at the centre.”
